Paterson City started the 2nd COVID 19 testing site in Paterson on Wednesday. Aqel Medical Center offering free testing, Monday through Friday, between 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. People seeking testing at the Aqel Medical Center on Crooks Avenue must have health insurance to make an appointment beforehand, but they do not need a prescription. People without health insurance will have to bring a prescription from their doctors.
One day after more than 200 residents get tested at the city’s first drive-thru site at Barnert Medical Arts Complex, Mayor Andre Sayegh announced this new testing site in South Paterson.
Dr. Mahmoud Aqel will be overseeing the nasal swab testing, conducted by medical students. dr. Aqel said, “We are glad to announce that we are going to serve our community by providing testing,” adding that the tests will be analyzed by Bio reference Laboratories in Englewood.
Sayegh clarified that while the site was not city-run it was “city-supported,” and an initiative that he hopes to see more of to continue to increase testing capabilities locally, including through a potential partnership with St. Joseph’s Health. He has taken a unique approach to expand testing in the densely populated city of 150,000 people. Paterson has the largest virus outbreak in Passaic County with 5,183 cases and 175 deaths.
