A 9-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his 5-year-old sister multiple times.

The stabbing happened on Monday around 4:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in Ocala, Florida.

He told detectives he stabbed his little sister in the back with a knife because he “wanted to kill her,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the newspaper. He said the thought of killing her came to his mind two days before the stabbing.

According to the Ocala Police Department, the boy was playing in his room with his little sister. Their mother was home at the time, but she stepped outside to check the mail and get the children some candy from a neighbor.

When she returned to their apartment, she found the boy repeatedly stabbing his younger sister.

The mother took the knife away from her son and called 911.

Medics arrived and airlifted the 5-year-old girl to a hospital for treatment.

The Ocala Police Department later posted photos to Facebook of officers responding to the scene. The department said it will release more details as the investigation continues.
